Table/House Rules

We have a few house rules and alterations to the base 5e rules at the Corner Table. Some augments to the rules, some changes to spells, some banned/removed things.

So far the source books that are allowed at the table are the base PHB, and Xanithar’s Guide. I’m currently going through Tasha’s Couldron of Everything and will add anything that may be altered once I get around to it.

Listed below are the alterations being made. If something like a subclass or spell is listed in the above mentioned source books, and isn’t called out below, than it stands as written.

Again, only stuff that’s altered is going to be listed on this page.

Named Diseases

More Than Just The Sniffles TLDR: The rules around diseases change when it comes to a Named Disease. Class features, spells, etc, that provide immunity to, or instantly cure a…

Druid Overhaul

We play druids at this table in a different way than what’s listed in the PHB, mostly around the Wild Shape ability.  The Problem With RAW Wild Shape The biggest…

Barbarian

Barbarian

  • Path of the Ancestrail GuardianRemoved/Banned – The afterlife works differently in this setting
  • Path of the Zelot
    • Warrior of the Gods – There are specific rules for resurrection. Update/rewrite coming
    • Rage Beyond Death – Rewrite for the table
      • While you’re raging, having 0HP doesn’t knock you unconscious. You still take spill over damage to your Life Points, and you suffer the normal effects of taking damage. However, if you would die due to taking a lethal blow or having both 0HP and 0LP, you don’t die until your rage ends, and you die then only if you still have 0HP.

Bard

Bard

  • College of GlamourRemoved/Banned –  There’s no connection to the Fey Wild in the setting. At least for now.
  • College of Creation – Requires some specific lore for character background. Talk to the DM.

Cleric

Cleric

  • Forge Domain – Has some specific lore for character background.
    • Artisans Blessing feature requires forge tools and supplies
    • Need to have at least dabbled in blacksmithing, as a hobby or profession

Druid

Druid

See the Druid Overhaul post for an in-depth breakdown of how Wild Shape is altered.

  • Circle of the Shepard – Minus the stuff about the Fey Wild, but otherwise fine as is.
  • Circle of Dreams –  Removed/Banned – There is no connection to the Fey Wild in this setting. At least for now.

Fighter

Fighter

  • Eldritch Knight – Specific character development
    • Need to study and/or train in the arcane arts.
      • Can be by studying under a mage, or having some sort of training martial and being self taught
      • Basically part of either your backstory or gained through general game play
  • Arcane Archer – Specific character development
    • The elven martial arts that is the Arcane Archer is a practice used by elite elven archers from the Evergreen Forest. It is very rarely ever taught to outsiders, so a connection to this elite secret art must be either in your character background or otherwise gained through general game play.

Paladin

The only thing to keep in mind for Paladins is that their immunity to disease is not as effective against Named Diseases as they are against generic diseases.

For both Lay On Hands and Divine Health class features, you have advantage on related Named Disease checks instead of immunity.

Ranger

Horizon Walker Removed/Banned – Other planes aren’t accessible in this setting. At least for now.

Rogue

Arcane Trickster – Specific character development

  • Needs to be training under a wizard and/or practicing wizard spells and cantrips through character levels 1 and 2. You don’t just suddenly become a Wizard/have Wizard spells. That shit takes time, practice, and knowledge. Almost like multi-classing into Wizard, without actually multi-classing, which is why “proper” wizards and mages see it as a bastardization of their craft.

Sorcerer

Sorcerer

  • Draconic Bloodline – See the Dragonsoul Bloodline background in the Theria Setting Book. While not required, this is the main way one would be a Draconic Sorcerer.
    • Draconic Resilience – manifestations like scales only appear when using higher level magic. Can become permanent under certain circumstances
    • Draconic Ancestry – Available Types: Red, White, Blue, Black
  • Shadow Magic
    • Shadow Walk – Can use a number of times equal to your CHA mod + 1.

Warlock

The biggest thing to keep in mind with Warlocks is that the pacts are made with demons, either higher tier Demon Lords or another lower-tier demon that isn’t recognized as a Demon Lord for one reason or another. Any subclass in the PHB or Xanithar’s that mentions a pact to a Fey or Celestial (for now, at least, in the case of the Celestial), it’s to be re-flavored as one of the demons mentioned above.

  • Patron: CelestialRemoved/Banned – The Gods do not make pacts with mortals, at least in their current state.
  • Evocation – Aspect of the Moon – If/when you change this Evocation out for another one, you gain 1 level of exhaustion, because you haven’t slept in a long time, most likely.

Monk

Monk

  • Timeless Body – You can’t be aged by most magical means. A Wish spell could probably still have some effect on you, as well as Godly artifacts or interventions, high level magic, etc. You still need food and water, but now you only need a days worth of both to sustain you for a week. You suffer no ill effects of hunger or dehydration during the process.
  • Way of the Open Hand
    • Quivering Palm – Distance: Within 500 Miles of each other. Otherwise fine.
  • Way of the Shadow
    • Shadow Step – Costs 1 Ki point for teleport to activate. Is active for 1 minute/10 rounds. Can teleport as written while ability is active.

Campaign Calendar

I found a great fantasy calendar that I could use to fill out the campaign timeline. It works best when viewed on a computer monitor, so if you’re viewing this on mobile and it doesn’t look right, that’s probably why.

I’ll be playing around with the calendar integration, so this section may be changing periodically over time while I dial in the integration.
